Indeed, the home has a new owner as of early last month (June 2016.) The previous owners were getting the lawn mowed after I spoke with them. I'll get in contact with the current homeowner and get them to start mowing and weed-whacking. If no one replies in the affirmative, I will leave open the option to cite them in Hammond Municipal Court, per usual.
I left a Green Sticker warning on the front door for the owner and any landscaping crew telling them to mow & weed-whack the backyard & alley, as well as a couple of other maintenance issues. I'll give the owner a call later today; hopefully, he answers.
The owner knows he has an Order to Appear for 2 weeks from now. He bought the home last spring 2016. He alleges the building improvements would be done during March 2017 (this month.) A couple of weeks ago, a contractor called me with a question regarding replacing the missing siding in front - he wanted to replace it all. I have not heard from either party since. If he has not gotten work done, a permit has not been pulled for the work, or he has not given me a solid reason why with a realistic timeline to finish by the OTA in 2 weeks, I will ask for a "default judgement," or fine, to motivate the owner! Thank you for using Hammond 311! Please call my dept. at (219) 853-6447 following this court date in 2 weeks if you wish for an update!
Just a reminder: The next court date is coming up next week (the week of March 26th) for this property's owner. If the contractors he hired have not contacted us or started work by then, I will be asking for a "default judgement" -- or fine -- from the judge next week in court. Hopefully this motivates him to get things done faster. Remember, you can always call my dept. at (219) 853-6447 !
