Construction occurs in town all the time. Responsible contractors enclose their construction sites, complete with health and safety barriers, and maintain their equipment within. Why is Boro allowing equipment to spread into public areas, even tolerating damage? Do officials believe residents don't care how the town is kept up? We do! Some are still complaining about the now-permanent orange cones and pylons along the bike path and Centre St. intersection. "Mucking the place up" is one comment a 75-year-old lifetime resident uttered recently while walking along our path.

Last May Mayor Brennan announced that Merchantville residents must be denied reserved parking on crowded streets because "RENTERS ARE CLIENTS OF LANDLORDS" (rental business); therefore, protected parking for residents would discriminate against businesses having clients.

Applying the specious argument, the Boro discriminates against residents by permitting contractor(s) to park illegally. Chalking a tire will show the truck is not being used.

Question: Why does Boro show special consideration to this one contractor? Has it to do with the contractor's real estate investment business?

The contractor that you are referring to is in the process of completing a project within the Borough. It is an ongoing project that is working with the department of public works on their schedule. The vehicles in question are on Borough property and are moved when the project is active. When the project is complete, the vehicles will be removed from the site.
