The advocates handing out these nylon tents are NOT helping the situation with the city's homeless. Rather, they are doing them a disservice that could potentially be catastrophic. As we all know, living near the bay, the summers may bring warm/hot temps during the day, but at night it's cold and damp, and when you're living on the street, the easiest form of warmth that will also help to keep things dry is flame-based. Cheap grills, like the one shown to the left of the fire there, often make for an easy heat source, but combined with the tents? I'm surprised no one has been killed yet. Stop giving them tents for the sidewalk and start working with the city get them open spaces with shelter and sanitation!

I don't think it sounded like you were talking about me. I agree with you 100% Im sure it sounded like a great idea at first for emergency housing but it is out of control

They all need to be in one area so something like this can dealt with. Over and over again I've seen the fire department called to encampments because someone is having a bad day. Advocates really need to get with it, and quit putting a band aid on a problem that is far more dangerous.
