right? they're easy to miss. especially when someone is flying throught the red light a few yards jsut west of this intersection and doesn't have enough time to see them. thanks for the vote DR..

This is a major safety issue for children which needs our alderman's attention. at the very least, we need flashing lights around the stop signs.

I am a parent of a child in this area and I worry every time I stop here. Does someone need to get hurt for something to change Mr. alderman? Do we need to cite this blog and these comments when something does? Hopefully this comment trail does not get much longer before something happens and the press jumps on this. Yes, being dramatic for the purpose of kids' safety.

I agree, have lived by there for 14 years and has always been a problem. It would be nice for our alderman to get this done ASAP especially since his office is a block away on Chicago ave.

Totally agree!! I have one child at Noble Day Care, who uses Eckhart Park, and one child that goes to Eckhart Park after school. I hate that intersection!!

My children have attended Noble Day Care since Day 1 and I have long worried about the speed at which cars zoom past after barely stopping at the stop sign. It is so bad that I am afraid to cross the street there and will wait to ensure that the drivers have come to a complete stop even after seeing me. The traffic is especially dangerous going east into the city. A couple years ago, I wrote a letter to the Alderman requesting assistance with this problem. It would be wonderful to see a change.

I also have a child at Noble Daycare, and in the past two years I have witnessed many near misses at this intersection. It would be reassuring to have additional safety measures implemented..

As a parent of a young child at Noble Daycare I frequently observe cars speeding through this intersection and I would appreciate modifications to make the stop sign more visible.

With almost 50 children at the Noble Daycare and many more kids and parents utilizing the park, it seems very reasonable to take some proactive action to ensure safe passage on Chicago Avenue to Eckhart Park. I would support the alderman's move to enhance safety features there.

I would never trust that stop sign! Dangerous....but the ones at Sprout (not sure of street) ARE EVEN WORSE!!!!!!!!

My children and I were very nearly killed at this intersection by a vehicle that ran the stop sign.

If people do stop, they just roll right through the stop sign and don't even look! Sometimes I have to wait for a few cars to go until someone lets me cross, sometimes waving my hand motioning I'm trying to cross because I don't want to just walk in front of peoples cars to prove some point about how I have the right away. Ya, definitely a good and safe common sense idea to add an additional traffic sign to let cars know to STOP!

Thank you everyone for commenting and voting on this issue. I’m surprised (and yet not surprised) that there has been no acknowledgment from the city on this issue. I’ve written to Alderman Burnett twice in the last two weeks to bring this to his attention, but have yet to get a response. I’ll continue to email him and I encourage everyone else to do the same. FYI, emails to info@27thward.com will bounce back (another discouraging sign of what’s going on in that office) so you’ll have to fill out the “Send Your Question” form on the Contact Us page of his site http://27thward.com/contact-us. If I still have not heard back from him or the city in the coming days, I’ll plan on going into his office on Chicago Ave. to see if I can get make any progress.

Maybe he's busy - I think I saw a bus board about his TV and radio shows near Clyborn and North...

Please do more than put up those rectangular signs in the middle of the intersection that just confuse drivers and pedestrians. (Example are the ones at Paulina & Division) I think flashing lights would work best to get drivers attention.

Thanks to the overwhelming response from all the votes here, Alderman Burnett Jr.’s office has responded with the promise to take action regarding the dangerous intersection at Chicago Ave. and Ada St.

Mrs. Moreno, Alderman Burnett Jr.’s Chief of Staff, reached out to me and indicated that this issue will be discussed in their upcoming staff meeting this Monday. A couple of ideas to be discussed will include raising the stop signs (since they can be blocked by parked delivery trucks or school buses) in addition to installing flashing lights on or around the signs. Another idea may be to install “Stop for pedestrians. It’s the law” signs on the center line to make drivers aware of the stop signs.

Thanks again to everyone for voting. I’m hopeful now that the wheels are in motion, we may some positive results.

Well it has been over six months now since I spoke with a Mrs. Diamond at alderman Burnett's office, when she assured me that this would be addressed soon. Since then I've emailed her and the alderman 9 times to see if any progress has been made. But I have not received one single response. Unfortunately it seems that SeeClickFix works only if you have competent elected officials who care. In our ward however, SeeClickFix is not as effective as I had hoped.

Still hoping someone from the city will acknowledge this issue. our alderman is worthless.

Issue is still not resolved. Our Alderman has placed signs for pedestrians in front of the bars down the street but still nothing for the crosswalk connecting the school and the park.

This will be even more important when the new park is open. When will that be? This fall?

I think the park opens this spring. Unfortunately the alderman's office has stopped returning my emails when I try to get a progress update regarding this issue. Something tells me that this is not on top of their list of things to do.

No action from Alderman Burnett Jr. Contacted CDOT for help and waiting for a response.

Seeing as how nothing is getting done about this intersection, I would like to encourage everyone who voted for this issue to fill out a very short survey with Chicago's Active Transportation Alliance (http://www.activetrans.org/blog/kwhitehead/tell-us-about-most-unsafe-crossings-your-neighborhood) to inform them about this issue. Maybe that way we can get actually some results. Alderman Burnett Jr. is a dead end.
