This has been going on for a long long time. They make a lot of money this way.. The cops make it for the city.. the individual cops gets special pay. the Towing companies make big money off the cars they tow and keep on their lots.
There is also a problem, as Victor said.. with the City itself. I wonder what they do with all that money.. it's not going into street and sidewalk maintenance.

It is ridiculous and unsafe that tow truck drivers go around as if they were playing in a TV game show.

The towing companies seem to have a sweetheart deal with city government where both make pots if money at the expense of residents who are the least bit careless. An ongoing disgrace, but we keep re-electing machine politicians who support the arrangement.

..As long as the outfits kick back some money to the city everything's fine. Pay to play.

I would really love it if some media outlet decided to explore this issue (again) particularly about how the Harp administration is or is not dealing with this. As a long time resident of New Haven, I just find myself so frustrated by this abuse of power and absolute money grab from residents who already pay high car and property taxes.
