We will pass this along to staff. We will say that we have received more positives than negatives when it comes to the lights. We do understand that in some cases they can pose a problem with neighbors. The brightness is set by federal and state DOT standards but a shield can be placed to focus the light to the street.

Thank you for looking into this. Just a couple of things to add.

1) You mentioned that the brightness is set by federal and state standards. However, the new lights are significantly brighter than the old ones, they make the entire street look like it is daytime. Everytime I look outside, it appears as if there is a car on the street shining their headlights way too bright. So unless the old lights did not satisfy the standards, something is not right there.

2) My entire neighborhood is up in arms about these outrageously bright lights that have been put up, so it is very sirprising to hear that you have received more positive feedback than negative. That is not what has been the case throughout my neighborhood.

Is the City certain that federal and state DOT standards require these lights to be as bright as they are on roads that are neither federal highways nor state-maintained roads? I'm not.

I am sure the city has received more positive than negative comments, they are much more effective at lighting an area... but having said that, there are many places especially in older neighborhoods where the homes are close to the street (unlike in the 'burbs with their deep front yards) that the intensity and/or focusing is not appropriate. I hope the city will keep these differences in mind when reading the requests to adjust the new lights.

LEDs are available that can fit much better for the older neighborhoods and anywhere residences are too close for lighting made for main arteries and expressways/highways. Thanks for your hard work on this!
