Description
About a month ago an alarm went off in a deteriorated, unsafe barn and two policemen were dispatched to investigate based on a call from a neighbor next door (with five kids). The police came to my door because I share a driveway with the property. When I took them back the officers remarked "boy, you don't see this often in Alameda" and "you should call code enforcement". I replied we have and they said "keep on them". The building, junk cars , parts, trash, fire hazards and huge dead tree violate about every city code on the books. About 10 years ago the neighborhood sent a petition to the City Attorney about the property... lots of words but no action. The lady that called in the alarm going off said she followed up by calling code enforcement. Each time she got a message machine but no call back. We really need some code enforcement this time before someone gets hurt (already the stairs in back collapsed and injured some kids a few years ago).

We are now over six months since this code enforcement issue was opened and almost five months since code enforcement cited the landlord "In violation" for "HEALTH AND SAFETY AND SUBSTANDARD HOUSING". Officer Hinson has been emailed twice for status with no response. Understandable since the landlord has done nothing except bring more garbage over from his Pearl Street house and rentals a couple blocks away to add to the unsanitary and hazardous dump here.
What can we do to help? Would it help if we open more issues with code enforcement?
Officer Hinson told the landlord that a copy of the report would be turned over to the police department to handle the junk cars. Are they coming out or does another complaint needs to be open as well as one with the fire department to handle the huge dead tree, dilapidated building and trash?
The city doing nothing has just emboldened him and make it worse for his neighbor's safety and health.
The neighbors at 1107 Broadway (http://seeclickfix.com/issues/2189591-code-enforcement ) were finally able to get that dump and fire hazard cleaned up with the aid of an Officer Smith. Any chance of enlisting him in this effort?
