Is there any explanation for what "Service Request Referred" means? How should a resident interpret the fact that this issue was marked as closed within less than a day (a Sunday at that)? Should we believe that someone came out, deemed this to not be a problem, and closed this case? I fully don't expect to get an answer, but these vague resolutions are meaningless.

This same thing happened to another incident I was following. An automated response is used and no one actually sees the questions that we're asking or provides any real feedback. If the city wants to close this, then so be it, but the people interested in it working should be made aware of the reasoning for it. Otherwise this site is completely useless. I will flag this issue through "see click fix" and see if anyone can provide more information.

I have brought this to the attention of a Midtown board member. They will work on this issue asap. Please keep reporting. :)

The Service Request was closed as a duplicate because it was already reported. The Open Service Request number is 101002166556. The best site to check the status of a request is the 311 site: Houston311.ORG. Go to the Map feature and either enter an address or zoom-in to the neighborhood, then click on the Red dot (indicates Open requests) and a dialog box with updated information will appear. You can also see all the other Open Service Requests in your neighborhood.

Justin/Cynthia - the user FXC is correct - if you go to the map, you can click the dot and it will show the the steps the city has taken so far, and the date it occurred. I'm not sure why they are renumbering the requests - maybe that happens when the request is passed from Midtown's SeeClickFix to the City of Houston 311. I have more experimenting to do.

Cases (issues) that require additional investigation may result in the original case being closed, and another case being opened if actual work is deemed necessary. The city is working on a solution to provide a link between these connected cases so a citizen may track their issue beginning to end. As each department handles case requests differently, the information contained within the 311 Case Management system may not always reflect all the information about a particular case.

A "Re-opened" case only opens the SeeClickFix issue for comments on the website. It does not re-open the case within the City of Houston's 311 case management system. To follow the progress of an issue, refer to the Houston 311 case reference number when contacting the city. Only the original submitter can then re-close a re-opened case.

Once the cases are closed within the Houston 311 Case Management System, the issues are automatically "Closed" on the SeeClickFix website. The cases can be followed not only by calling the Houston 311 Help & Info line, but also through the newly released Houston 311 website's mapping application, http://www.houston311.org - case information is updated hourly. This new feature allows citizens a view into not only their cases, but also all cases within any area of Houston. New case creation dates and due dates can be also be seen using these features.

SCF does have their own numbering system. The COH has a Customer Request application that also has its own numbering system.

As an example, the SCF case might be: http://seeclickfix.com/issues/2450487 , and the COH 311 case is 101002166393. COH then combines the 2 numbers into: 122729-101002166393 as the case reference number. Generally, this is more explanation than a day to day citizen needs, thus we simply create, address, service and close cases. SCF helps the citizen facilitate creating service requests; and the best source of information on those requests is the COH website map. You can enter the COH case number in the search box, and go directly to the case information.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. This is exactly the information that I was hoping for. I feel like this isn't clear to the average user, so we leave frustrated at the process. As you noted, you're working on a connection between the SCF issue and the COH 311 issue. That would be great. In the interim, even an update to the automatic message that indicates that another case has been opened with the COH and that the case number is x, would be helpful. Thanks again for the explanation!
