Description

There is a four-way stop at Elm and Elizabeth Streets (at the SE corner of Sick Kids' Hospital). While the northern, southern, and eastern stop signs are readily visible, the western stop sign is invisible, thanks to the city designating the south side of Elm Street between University Avenue and Elizabeth Street an overflow parking area for motorcoaches that have nowhere to park near the Coach Terminal. Countless times, I have seen vehicles -- including police vehicles -- fail to stop at the western stop sign (when heading east on Elm Street). This is because the tall buses completely obscure the stop sign until it is too late. This itself is very dangerous. What makes this area even more dangerous now is that women and children now inhabit the YWCA Elm Centre on the south side of Elm, west of Elizabeth. The motorcoaches park in front of the Elm Centre. With children playing there (there is a playground), it is extremely dangerous when motorists approach the four-way-stop intersection, because children sometimes dart off the sidewalk onto the Elm Street, where motorists can not see them before it is too late. Please have something done about these buses, because the parked buses are such a danger to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike, and especially to children.
