Description
The new right turn lane off Jones Bridge Rd is confusing to motorists. The sign says Keep Moving, but cars are stopping right before they reach the acceleration lane. Can the city explain how this new lane is to be used most effectively and safely. Are cars to stake in the acceleration lane until the broken white line appears? I believe the hesitation by motorist to NOT Keep Moving is due to the fact the the lanes on McGinnis Ferry Rd are narrow. When cars are turning left off Brookwood Rd onto McGinnis Ferry they typically have to extend over into the new acceleration lane causing cars entering into the acceleration lane to stop or pause before entering. The city needs to add a concrete curb/lip down the acceleration lane up until the broken white line. Please do not use those hideous plastic poles as a barrier they only become destroyed and are not as effective as the concrete curb. By adding a concrete curb/lip motorists turning left onto McGinnis from Brookwood do not cross over into the acceleration lane and motorists using the acceleration lane feel comfortable to Keep Moving.

Per our Traffic Department:
This project was completed to provide immediate relief as the widening project will not be completed in the very near future. The additional pavement will likely be utilized when the widening project is ultimately completed.
Motorists are to keep moving and should wait to merge until the solid white line ends and they have reached a safer/higher merging speed. Obviously, if motorists do not perceive an adequate gap, they should stop as the eastbound through traffic on McGinnis Ferry Rd has the right of way.
We will not be adding any barriers on the solid white line as doing so would restrict a truck’s ability to navigate the turn without tracking into the radius and potentially hitting the signal pole and traffic control cabinet. A larger radius was not provided as doing so would have required significant costs associated with the relocation of the signal pole and cabinet and restringing the span wires that supports the signal heads.
Motorists making the soutbound left from Brookwood are only legally entitled to the inside lane on McGinnis Ferry Rd. The solid white line further emphasizes that fact.
