Description

Here's an unnecessary problem with a reasonable solution.
When heading west on two-lane Grove from State Street, the intersection with Orange Street has Grove's left lane marked for a left turn or to go straight. The right lane "ends" with a right-turn only marking.
Yet, past Orange, Grove Street still has its two lanes, and the markings have the left lane heading into the right lane at that intersection.
If these markings were obeyed, the volume of traffic here, combined with the timing of the red-lights, would see nearly all cars heading west backed up in the left lane with the right lane free for whomever turned right (many fewer). Consequently, as many drivers do, those who want to head straight avoid the long line in the left lane and when the light turns green they gun it and go straight ahead of the rest.
This causes problems, increases the ire of left lane drivers, and has probably caused accidents.
Solution. Keep the left lane marked to turn left or go straight as it is currently. But now mark the right lane to turn right or go straight.
FIRST, of course, re-mark the intersection lane lines to "steer" each lane with a gentle swerve onto the next block of Grove. Those who want to turn left or right will be in their respective lanes and anybody going straight -- in either lane -- can simply follow the lines and go straight ahead.
