At the street light at the corner of Davie and Salisbury Streets (if a car is traveling east, towards Red Hat) the right turn lane is very dangerous and should be a NO TURN ON RED. People are always crossing at these intersections because the police station is nearby, and I've seen people almost get run over several times as a car is trying to turn right on red and people are trying to cross at the cross walk.

I agree. I think there should be no right turn on red at this intersection, similar to the intersection at S Salisbury St and Cabarrus St. This area has many pedestrians because there are several parking decks and parking lots used by people who are going to the courthouse.

The crosswalk at Davie and Blount also has a NO RIGHT ON RED that is helpful and this is a much less busy intersection.

The intersection has been studied along with the crash diagrams. As is throughout the entire city, pedestrians have the right away in a marked crosswalk and it is the driver’s responsibility to see their way clear to execute any movement. While performing field investigation at the location, staff noticed vehicles stopping in the crosswalk and not at the stopbar. Staff does not recommend the installation of a no turn on red sign at this location at this time. Staff will continue to monitor this location. Thank you for your concern with the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and vehicular traffic.
