Description
The traffic light on Forts Ferry Road in front of the elementary school frequently disrupts traffic due operating by timer rather than by sensor. All day long, and all year long, whether school is in session or not, the light follows its 30-second routine of stopping traffic along Forts Ferry Road. There are often cars on Forts Ferry that must sit there and wait while no traffic is turning into or out of the school or the side street (Elinor Pl) across from it.
Ideally, this light would only stop traffic on Forts Ferry Road when a waiting vehicle is detected at the school or side street. During the summer and winter school breaks, it should probably be a flashing yellow light facing Forts Ferry, and a flashing red light facing the school and Elinor Pl.

You are right! I drove through this intersection this morning, and there were absolutely NO cars at the intersection besides me, and I had to sit on Forts Ferry Rd. waiting for the light to turn green.
That light looks like it was installed in the 1940's or something anyway, and it's about time for a new, more-modern one which isn't just on a timer.
It doesn't need to turn red for the cars on Forts Ferry Rd. when there aren't any cars coming out of Elinor St. or the school!!!!

I'm not sure if a sensor was added, but this traffic light has been performing much more intelligently since roughly the start of the 2011-2012 school year. Red lights no longer last as long, and it seems to be more 'aware' of the common traffic flows (ie, much more traffic along Forts Ferry Road than on Elinor Place).
It's not perfect, but it's a definite improvement!
