I understand your idea of a roundabout, but as a resident of that area, i can tell you that the motorists that typically travel that route are not the smartest and that would confuse them even more. also, as Madison transitions from 2 lanes to 1 lane going eastbound toward the plaza and museum, it wouldn't work because of the bottleneck issues. I think what they really need is to more effectively use the priority arrows, install cameras at the intersection to ticket offenders, and repaint the lanes, as many motorists get confused easily.

Maybe the City of Albany should completely re-think the whole Lark St. corridor and turn it into a "pedestrian-only" street. I'm usually not in favor of doing things like that, but I think if the City of Albany took a good long look at the chaotic nature of the streets down in that area and just worked with simple geometry, they could come up with a better alternative than the jumble of traffic that exists there now.

While a roundabout would be nice in theory, I believe this corridor is too small for one and would easily get backed up when traffic piles up on Madison going east bound during rush hour. Clear lane paint and priority lighting would be the quickest and cheapest solution. However, transition Lark St to a pedestrian mall, at least during non-rush hour time periods would be great. Unfortunately such a concept would be too grand for our car obsessed suburbanites who pass through.
