You do realize that the Esopus has untreated raw sewage directly from Phonecia as it refuses to even take a free sewer treatment plant from NYC and New Paltz , even with a sewer treatment plant, still throws one half of its raw sewage untreated into the Wallkill. (Just visit the rail trail and water street sewer's overflowing anytime, even when it doesn't rain). If whole population centers do this, that what you are witnessing is just symptomatic of the problem. The infrastructure around here goes all the way back to the Huguenots, in fact, Huguenot original hollowed trees are still in use in the Huguenot Street historic district, as it was the only way the Federal government would give money to restore buildings sinking there, only as long as the original wooden sewer pipes were kept. It is a problem, but at least it serves "preservation".

This issue seems ready to close. There certainly still needs to be sewer upgrades, but this has not received any discussion for a few years, so unless someone else comments on this, I will close it.
