Description
We on Thomas Circle have very dim street lights from the 3 street lights We appreciate we get light, but I notice in Wakefield they are changing to LED and more light is pointed downward instead of dispersing and becoming dim with this older method that is used currently and LED saves towns more money in the long run. Any prospect that we on Thomas circle can get new LED heads on our street lamp poles. We would be very grateful, we just want a safe neighborhood and extra light will help littering deterrence.

Wakefield’s power supply for street lights is through the Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department whereas the Town of Stoneham’s power supply for street lights is provided through a Utility company at rates filed with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. At present there are no discounts to a municipality for utilizing LED light fixtures. Residents of Wakefield, through a LED conversion program, are able to save money by reducing their electrical usage which results in lower distribution charges, electrical transmission tariffs etc.
Rounding out the number of street lights and lumens the cost to convert the Town’s current system would be:
4000 Lumens - $225 Each – 1,260 Units - $283,500
9500 Lumens - $295 Each – 150 Units - $44,250
25000 Lumens - $750 Each – 120 Units - $90,000
Total $417,750
