Description
If SeeClickFix had a wishlist, this item would go there:
I'm always interested in the City Plan and the Board of Zoning Appeals proceedings. I wish that the transcripts, video, applicant submissions from all meetings were digitally archived, posted, and easily searchable on the City's website.
The New Haven Independent does a great job of reporting on much of the proceedings, but a complete archival database of proceedings would be a truly great resource for New Haveners.
As it currently stands, the City Plan and BZA sites have past and current agendas, but no meeting minutes or other information. An excellent example of the type of fastidious dedication to transparency and information sharing is the Toronto government website, with links to all committees that include agendas, minutes, decisions, and background information on all items up for consideration.
Perhaps the Board of Aldermen should consider raising the issue for consideration of the City's online efficacy.

agree - we need transparency

Interesting idea. We don't have Board of Aldermen hearings on tape either, and there are no word-for-word transcripts.

I completely agree - we do have the audio of committee hearings on electronic file that can be accessed through the office of legislative services. But there should be an easier way to access this. I'm happy to work on this issue with anyone that would like to do more research with me - doug@dougward7.com

SCF wants an update on the status of this issue, asking if it has been fixed. Nope. Perhaps with a new administration, the city can launch a campaign to harness the power of the internet for the benefit of town-folk. I propose that all matter of public record be digitized into an easily searchable (including filters and cross-references) database. All forms, meeting agendas and minutes, presented exhibits (like drawings for BZA and SITE plan meetings), and the like should be bundled into an easy-to-navigate platform. Has SCF had any experience in directing this kind of city-wide information initiative?
