Description
This morning the train blocked all of the main crossings again. I took a picture of where it stopped for 20 minutes this morning. I am averaging being significantly late for work at least one morning a week. With construction for the round about, time has already been added to my morning commute. In order to find another possible crossing I must go several miles out of the way. Are there any plans to deal with this? Is it possible to create a crossing under the tracks somewhere in the city, or make the trains pass each other a considerable distance outside the city limits? This is a serious nuisance for people who have to regularly cross the train tracks!

As you are already familiar, this has been an ongoing problem with the railroad crossings here in town for many years. We have made contact with Norfolk Southern authorities on numerous occasions over the years with this same concern. Typically, we receive little more than excuses from the railroad. Periodically the issue will improve but always reverts back to all 3 crossing being blocked as well as the crossing at Radford Rd. When that occurs all of us are forced to either wait or travel several miles to Gaines Ferry Rd to cross. Imagine the frustration of your emergency responders when these circumstances happen during a dispatched 911 call. To us the solution seems simple enough, they have a little more than 2 miles of double main line track here - just put together your trains less than 2 miles in length.
Yesterday we received the same sort of complaint through our Departmental face book and will contact Norfolk Southern with these concerns. If you so choose you may contact them directly at 1-864-255-4219 (their dispatch center) regarding crossing numbers 71810P, 71811P, and 71812P or the Piedmont Division manager at 404-589-6116 (Zachary).
