Don't blame it on the bike lanes - the bike lanes don't restrict parking.

We really have a problem with pot holes and too many business trucks in this neighborhood. We need help. Last night I counted seven trucks that should not be parked on the street in a residential area in a one block area.

These truck owners purchase Firefighter Memorial license plates to avoid the otherwise-required truck plates that they should have. It's an incredible nuisance to the rest of us that need residential parking!

The Firefighter plates are just a "beard" to hide behind to avoid getting a ticket from the police.

Even with truck plate, parking of commercial vehicles on residential streets is prohibited. Call 911 and report the trucks parking.

From a notice from the 39th Ward:

The City of Chicago will resume enforcement of the residential truck ordinance. Generally speaking, trucks cannot park on residential streets, unless they are there specifically to provide a service to a resident.

However, if you have a truck weighing 8,000 pounds or fewer, which you use as your personal (not business) vehicle, you may obtain a Residential Truck Permit from the Alderman's office. This permit will allow you to park the truck in front of your home. There is no charge for this permit.

To obtain your Residential Truck Permit, bring the vehicle and your proof of address to Alderman Laurino's office at 4404 W. Lawrence Ave. The truck cannot have any business name or advertising or any other indication that it is primarily for business use. It must have a current City of Chicago City Sticker. It cannot have any outstanding parking tickets.

What was done to close this issue?

I have seen only one truck being ticketed in the many weeks this has been acknowledged. This has to be a nightly check as once a amonth will not deter or inform others.

Re-submit your complaint. Call the alderman's office. Ask that the issue be re-opened. Go to a CAPS meeting and bring up the issue. Take pictures of the trucks parked.
