My roommate and I have called the Bangor PD on several occasions as well as a neighbor of ours in the same building. On several occastions the Bangor PD found people in their cars high as a kite and drunk, one man had driven over a cement block and almost drove into the side of our building but the cops didn't give him a sobriety test. Though he was sitting behind the wheel drunk with the car running. They arrested no one but did let a less drunk person drive. Today a girl visiting a neighbor of mine was trying to drive home drunk after a night of partying. I heard the car horn honk and looked out my window. She had passed out behind the wheel of her car. I called Bangor PD. When they showed up she happened to come too but still looked obviously high and drunk, also looking very pale and sweaty. They found her sitting behind the wheel of a car with an open bottle of alcohol that they made her dump out. But did they arrest her? Did they give her a sobriety test? Did they do anything? Big Fat NO! They let her go. And now I see her outside alone sitting in the car. She admitted to the cops that she did pass out but only from being tired. Now I'm wondering if she is OK. Even though EMTs showed up no one examined this girl at all, not at all. Maybe there are technicalities but the cops are obviously, intentionally and knowly letting inebriated people from my neighborhood go. There are more occasions that I've witnessed but you get the idea. It was frightening to look out my window and see a girl slumped over her wheel looking white as a sheet after hearing her car horn frantically go off for a solid minute. Not sure if she passed out on the horn or was trying to get help before she passed out. She was having a hard time standing while talking to the cops and was playing with her hair in a funny way like she was intoxicated or high. With obvious signs like this why do the bangor police consistently let these people go on Pine St.??? I tried calling dispatch once but they said I'd have to 'wait' to hear back from any officers involved. Which gave me the impression that this was the start of some "run around". So I never followed up. My roommate and I and another neighbor that has now moved called about noise complaints and the cops found people in a nearby parking lot again sitting in a car with the smell of pot and alcohol strong enough to enter my apartment window, so you'd think the cops would smell it on them being 2 feet in front of these people. So why are the Bangor cops being like this??? Sad thing is this is not a good impression for Maine. In fact the man that moved out was from out of state. He came up to Maine to work at a nearby college. I could always see him in nice dress clothes. Rumor has it he was actually dismayed at the conduct he's seen in Bangor as well as the lack of things to do up here (which might explain why people drink so much). Sorry to rant so long but I'm not certain how a cop can find an open bottle of booze in a car with a girl slumped in her seat, with something obviously wrong with her and let her go. Even if she wasn't high as a kite or drunk, a big red flag was shown that perhaps there is something medical going on that she is either not sharing or not aware of herself. Now I'm worried for her. I look out my window again and she's gone. Gone where? Is she OK or is she passed out in a ditch somewhere or dying? Maybe the police have their reasons but I can't see it.
