If a dead cat or dog with or without tags is removed by animal control officer or DPW is it possible to get a chip scanner for them to see if animal has a chip so that owner can be notified.and also notified if animal has a metal tag. This would be good PR for city as there are many lost pet postings. The cost would be worth it rather than animal being dumped into trash can, hopefully not at DPW because this would be health hazard for DPW worker or anyone dealing with trash.

Thanks to those who replied, especially Debbie DeMaria, Steve Ultrino and our Mayor who had Kevin Alkins, the animal control officer contact me.
Kevin explained that he does have a chip scanner with him and does use it and explained the issues involved if chips are not registered. He said that he brings the dead animals to a location and keeps them there for several days in case lost pet owners call. He also explained that finally the animals are taken to a local vet for disposal and not just thrown in dumpster. He said that maybe one could be kept fat the DPW. The scanner he has was a donation from an animal welfare group.
He said he was not aware of my SeeClickFix ticket as it was routed to DPW.
Thanks to our Mayor and to Kevin who gave me his cell number to call before he went on vacation next week.
