Description
Traffic approaching this intersection on Providence wait approximately 5 seconds for the signal to turn green. Only when traffic on Mayfield is continuous over sensors does this not occur. Does the volume of traffic from Providence justify such a quick switch?

Our traffic engineers have inspected the signal and confirmed that it is operating within the assigned timing plan. That plan is designed to serve continuous demand on Mayfield Road up to a specified maximum "green" time on the signal.
When there is not continuous demand on Mayfield and a vehicle on Providence arrives at the intersection, the sensors will after a few seconds determine that the green signal on Mayfield should "gap out" and turn red so that the vehicle on Providence may proceed through the intersection. In that few seconds, the system (1) detects the presence of the vehicle on providence, (2) interprets that demand for "green time" on Mayfield is not present, and (3) cycles the signal on Mayfield from green, to yellow, to red and the cycles the signal on Providence to green.
If you do not feel that this is occurring properly, please contact our Director of Public Works, Pete Sewczwicz, at psewczwicz@alpharetta.ga.us or 678-297-6219.
