Wade Avenue is on the NCDOT State Highway System and any traffic changes would have to be made by them. However, a crash study was conducted specifically at the Jaycee Park driveways on Wade Avenue and there were no crash patterns found. Restricting access by prohibiting left turns into Jaycee Park would require some sort of concrete channelization as compliance to only a sign would be very low. Without any crash pattern or documented problem, we would be unable to recommend hard concrete channelization at the two driveways. Additionally, we discussed a concrete median with NCDOT and it would not be possible in that area of Wade Avenue. NCDOT would require at least a 4 foot wide concrete median and the lanes are too narrow. We will continue to monitor this area as a whole for crash issues but at this time we are unable to recommend prohibiting left turns at Jaycee Park.
