Yesterday my trash and recycling were thrown in the same truck. If winter Bros. can throw both in the same truck why am I bothering to rinse and separate. Everyone should be appalled at this. Let's start taking pictures. I'm sure we pay them to do both pick ups separately.

I also sympathize with all the damaged trash containers from poor contractor handling.
WARNING (Gast)
I inadvertently captured a picture (taking a picture of something else at the time) .....of a Winter Bro.
employee also throwing my small bin mixed with my house trash. It was literally my Large 50 gallon container then followed by my smaller tote bin.
I also have an older Video of the Winter Bros team member throwing my Bins & $65.00 Tall containers an entire street width to make the throw back to my property saving them steps. The container crashed, slide and then slamed into the roadway and curbing severely damaging them with pieces flying. The containers became inoperable from their original manufactured intent.
PUTS A NEW MEANING TO PAYING LOCAL TAXS ON THE GARBAGE SERVICE FOLLOWED BY A HOMOWNERS COST TO REPLACE THE DESTROYED CONTAINERS. –Double Tax -
**** Class Action for all who have damaged containers with option to replace with Cadillac refuse models pending ****

Last Q&A:
" Is this a problem in Ansonia?" (ONLY) .... I'm from Seymour and we recently received new bins from the town (good plan) . I believe it's been going smoothly. "
Answer:
You are questioning the difference between Garbage practices in Ansonia ( Resembling garbage coming from Route 115 South into the town center ) -and- Seymour which seems visually clean by a visitors 1st impression when entering in the opposite direction.
The conclusion for most; since Ansonia is packed with the entitlement and an overwhelming rental community it simply becomes a struggle to separate garbage from garbage when those placing the containers outside their rents do not give a S%&t what goes in or how they contribute as a society. .....Yes this is sad but a town attacks these practices exactly the way its physical surroundings portray.

I have two questions: How do so many in people in Ansonia whine about everything and nothing at the same time? And how do you seem to miss the answers that people like Leo provide and keep complaining about things that have already been answered.
I monitor over 20 towns and I've never seen so many people complain about exaggerated, embellished & imaginary stuff. The only legit complaints any of you have is that your bins are carelessly thrown about and there's trash left in your bin. Post your video, call the city or the trash hauler and tell them you won't pay for replacement. If the employee was too lazy to reach in for all your trash- What do you do? You call them and they send out a pickup truck immediately to retrieve it! Isn't that amazing? Both of these real problems have happened to me and I got a new bin, they picked up my uncollected trash and they transferred and reprimanded the employee.
Ok Ansonia whiners, bring on the hate and attacks you always respond with when you're confronted with simple answers and common sense solutions.

I AS WELL AS MANY ANSONIA NEIGHBORS WOULD NOT MIND TAKING OUR OWN GARBAGE CANS ( or enormous dumpsters) TO THE UPPER PORTION OF ANSONIA'S MAIN STREET WHERE SOMEONE MENTIONED ABOVE . I HERE THE MOVE OF THE OLD FARRELL BUILDINGS DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM THE FIRE HOUSE AND ARMORY WILL CONTINUE TO IMPEDE ANSONIA'S REVIVAL AND SURVIVAL TO BE RECOGNIZED. –Sad and long standing saga -

So, by all means, go ahead, discourage recycling and make Ansonia a more expensive place because YOU don't understand how the truck works. Maybe get the answer you're waiting for before discouraging people from recycling?

Funny so many should mention "treatment of trash containers" by Winter Bros.
I have ONE large can I wheel to the end of my driveway. It's not heavy. Only since Winter Bros. took over I have found the lid all the way across my yard (as if the trash crew played freebie). The can is often tossed halfway down my driveway and a couple weeks ago it vanished....
I found it the next day THREE HOUSES UP the street laying in a neighbors yard.
Ansonia has a BIG Winter Bros. problem and I trust they are taking action.

Planner,
I'll add that I have no children in the school system and I pay $6,000 a year in property taxes for a house and a car. What am I paying for?!
1. Trash removal.
2. Snow removal
3. An overstaffed Police Department where you can find officers driving around like taxis in circles.
Sidewalks a mess. Roads need repaving. Downtown needs major work. I could get the services above from a private company for far less.

I just listed my 2400 sq ft house on Realtor.com using online agent profile.
Soon I too will abandon the Land of Ansonia which seems like the land that time forgot.
Sad...I only been here 8 years in the hilltop sector but feel the future holds better in those communities you mention where one could actually get exercise on a Saturday managing ones garbage and yet enjoy a secluded wooded lifestyle. It will also offer peace of mind without worrying about my kids in a school system where 60 percent of the kids have serious family structure issues, English is a second language and entitlements are out-of-control. Yes the center of town has even more compounded issues.

Winters Bros. Customer Service (Gast)
Good morning. I work for Winters Bros. and would like to address some of the concerns that have been voiced here on this anonymous blog. As far as mixing garbage and recycling, we have two separate trucks that pick up trash and recycling in the City of Ansonia. If our employees see that the recycling is contaminated with the garbage for some reason they do throw the waste away as garbage. This would be heavily soiled food containers, non-recyclable items, etc. For more information about what is recyclable I've included this link as a guide (http://wintersbrosct.com/services/recycling.php )
For damaged containers due to mishandling by our employees please report that to our offices and we'll make sure to correct the issues specific to you. We cannot generalize without knowing the specifics of the problem and are always happy to help make the waste and recycling pickup in Ansonia smoother. Furthermore, the bins to get damaged due to wear and tear and the City of Ansonia public works department does have a replacement program, and I'm sure that if you call them they would work with you on making sure that you have an adequate bin.
Our customer service line is 203-743-0405 and are happy to answer any individual problems that you may have. We always appreciate positive and constructive feedback and will work diligently to satisfy the residents of Ansonia and all of our customers. You can also use our customer service email address info@wintersbrosct.com

can you back you trucks and crew into the corner of Main and North Main and aid in removal of that high rise rubble across from the Armory. You know which one....the one with the forest growing out of it coupled with boys-from-the-Hood territorial symbols and rats exiting the open bay doors.

NOTHING CHANGES...
Trash in my area was picked up this morning. My one can was tossed across my driveway and as I left for the day I could see my neighbors trash cans were thrown around also.
Winter Brothers staff grabs your can, empties it and then throws the can back onto the sidewalk wherever it lands.
How does Ansonia find this acceptable? Is there nothing in the contract that says they need to act professionally?

ATTENTION EMPLOYEES IN ANSONIA CITY HALL:
Is ANYONE going to read this thread and DO ANYTHING about Winter Bros?!
Moment ago, they came to pick up my household trash. I heard the truck arrive, I heard it pull away so I went outside to get my can.
IT IS THROWN DOWN THE STREET 20-30 FEET FROM WHERE I PLACED IT AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY ON THE SIDEWALK.
Clearly they are violating some term of their contract. NOT ACCEPTABLE!

If you want action you should take the simplest and most direct route: CALL PUBLIC WORKS OR WINTER BROS!!!

The Valley Independent Sentinel and ALL area newspaper promote THIS SITE as a place to post community concerns. They even supply a link. In fact, the mayors office has posted on this very site that IT IS MONITORED.
Unless Ansonia would like to create a web site for community input and questions... IT'S 2015 AND HERE IT IS! No need to act like it;s 1975 and call around City Hall.

These thieves are on drugs and who knows why they are taking garbage. For the cans? Or trying to get valuable information for fraudulent use?
The neighbor proceeded to chase after the perpetrators after they took off in their SUV. The police chased the neighbor instead of the perpetrator!! Keystone cops?

I am the Operations Manager with Winters Brothers in Shelton, and I just wanted to address the concerns that many have voiced on this forum. I know many of the posts are from last summer but I still wanted to reassure the citizens of Ansonia, and all of our customers, that Winters Brothers strives to provide great service to our valued customers. I can understand the frustration if you happen to see a driver empty your recycling along with the trash. However we do have to rely on the drivers to make sure the recycling they collect is not contaminated. If they notice that it is, unfortunately it is considered trash therefore should be collected along with the trash. If there are any questions as to what should be in your recycling bin each week, please do not hesitate to call our offices and we can provide you with a detailed list of recyclable materials.
Regarding the instances where trash cans are mishandled and thrown around, without pictures or specific incidents, these things are tough to address. I personally have spoken to the drivers and helpers on the trucks and have reminded them to always place the containers in an upright position, exactly where they found them, not blocking the road or anyone's driveway. Occasionally there will be windy days when empty cans will be vulnerable to the weather, but they will do their best to make sure your containers do not end up in your neighbors property or a mile down the road!
One thing I encourage is that if you still do have any questions or concerns regarding our services, or issues relating to our services, please to not hesitate to reach out and call us directly at 203-743-0405. My name is Erik and you can ask to speak with me directly. I also encourage our customers to speak with the drivers on their routes also if they happen to be outside when the guys come by for their pick up. They will gladly speak with you and answer your questions.
Again, please do not hesitate to call us at any time. We're always glad to hear from you.
