There's rarely a justification for speeding, but there may be an explanation: if only whoever is responsible for the timing of the traffic lights took the time to do his/her job correctly, people might not be speeding so much on Washington Ave. It is extremely frustrating to drive one block at a time and get EVERY single red light. I sit at a red light and see the next block is green. When mine turns green, the next one is red. So, many people (and I'm guilty) are so sick and tired of the poorly timed red lights, they speed to try to get the next green light. Putting up lights and just turning them on is asinine. It takes planning to time the lights correctly. You're not supposed to have to go one block at a time. It increases pollution and gives rise to road rage because drivers are so ticked off. By the time they get past Pearl and going toward Linderman, they've had enough.

The new mayor will fix this,be patient please.

i have to agree with dee 110% !! the synchronization of lights on washington avenue is horrible! the city might as well put up stop signs!!

you see, anonymous, in order to fix a problem you need to recognize the root of the problem .... not suggest a band aid that is only going to be a temporary fix.

so, my suggestion to you, since you started this post, is contact dpw (phone, email, whatever ...) and express your opinion. if you are not satisfied with your response, then contact the alderman for that ward.

it amazes me that most people that post here do not take the time to make the necessary "first steps." they would much rather vent their complaints here in hopes that someone else will solve THEIR issue for them. the public, if it wants results, needs to take those first steps to solving an issue before they complain about it in this forum. jmo.

trolls: this is not the last step on the road to fixing things. It may be the first, or third, but a site named see click fix does not strike me as the "nuclear option".
I recognize the root of the problem, it's people speeding. It's not the car's fault, or the lights (contact DPW yourself) it's people. People breaking the law in my front yard, or there about.
The equipment is not the issue. NYC had these on queens blvd to catch people going through red lights. Unless they have been struck down (possible) If so, I apologize, but the camera would get the driver behind the wheel and the plate.
If automation is too scary, please get me a SHERIFF supervisor here, so they can patrol for their own (guess who a lot of the speeders are).

I totally agree with you, buford. I can understand when someone doesn't want to confront their neighbor, but it truly is amazing how many people air grievances which will never be solved in this forum. When a street light is out, call Central Hudson. If there are potholes or drug dealing, call DPW or the police. If you don't know whom to call, call your representative (alderman, town board member, etc.). And if you don't know who your representative is, SHAME ON YOU!

The one I found the most amusing is when someone complained about the toll hike on the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge. What solution were they hoping for?

Since this post is about speeding, the complainant should call the alderman of the ward and the KPD.

The point that seems to need clarification is that reporting something on SeeClickFix is a proactive step towards resolving the problem. This is a forum for addressing problems, not just complaining about them.

If you click on 'Where did this report go?' to the right of the screen, you'll see all of the individuals who were notified about issues reported in this area. As you can see, several of the people listed are aldermen, who have the ability to impact things like where police resources are deployed, and other municipal issues. Therefore, they can use the feedback from this site to make real changes.

Kevin, it's nice to know that the complaints don't fall on deaf ears (or blind eyes!). But sometimes it makes more sense for someone to directly contact the appropriate (i.e., concerned) parties. Perhaps you could include a "directory" (include names, numbers, and perhaps email) of people to contact for particular complaints; e.g., Central Hudson for a street light outage. It's amazing what people don't know - many people don't know who their alderman or town board member, etc., is.

This city needs money, why not ENFORCE traffic regulations: speeding, loud mufflers, running lights and stop signs. I guess it is easier to hand out parking tickets which discourages people from shopping in Kingston's business districts

@ Bruno....if the city starts doing that, then the more noble city residents who are being hassled for silly stuff (a loud muffler does not a criminal make)....will complain that the city is wasting its resources on that rather than real crimes happening on Broadway and the surrounding inner streets every night. It's a lose-lose.
