That's largely because the St. Paul Police refuse to enforce the truck route ordinance on that stretch. The law bans vehicles over 15,000 GW from the street except for city vehicles and buses and those making deliveries on the street. The weight of the multiple 18-wheelers and very large box trucks using the street is tearing up the street, which is why is resembles Pierce-Bulter, which IS a truck route.
The solution is to get these heavy vehicles off the road through enforcement, and to fix the road. Unless the vehicles are gone, any fix will just deteriorate again.
Thanks Dave! New to the neighborhood so that's great insight. I've noticed the truck traffic, specifically when they drive by and my house shakes. I didn't realize there was an ordinance but you're right, it's clear that it's not being enforced.
Are you living on that stretch of Minnehaha Ave? If so, I'd like to talk to you as we are looking to bring it to our City Council member, and the number of people involved in the complaint will be important to determine how much attention we get. Respond to me at olsondavid2@gmail.com. That goes for anyone else who wants to join in trying to reduce the illegal truck traffic on this stretch of road.
