The alley behind our block (and I'm sure others) is in terrible shape. Directly behind our house is what seems to be a pond, and we are having a terrible mosquito problem, presumably because of all the standing water for days after a rain. The alleys need to be filled in and smoothed out more often than has been done in the past. When we called to inquire when this problem would be fixed we were told NOVEMBER. That is unreasonable and unacceptable.

Sean, it's not "fixed"; the city simply "closed" the complaint which makes it appear to have been resolved. They have basically put it on the back burner. I expect the Nov. time frame (which is what they told my husband on the phone) is probably accurate, which means we will have to put up with lake-size pools of water in the alley and mosquitoes breeding like crazy, all summer and into the fall. Not good!

Unfortunately, when the city graded the alley last year, they made a bad situation worse. Instead of grading the alley level, it was graded so that the water can run off into neighbors yards. I have pointed this out several times over the last year, and have yet to receive a response. As of today, no action has been taken to resolve this issue

This is an issue just about everywhere. The grading works temporarily, but it's quick to deteriorate. From what I can tell, the deeper holes get filled in with loose dirt/gravel, and before it ever can get packed down it's displaced and the holes return. Ours is terrible - both the holes and the height (it's higher than our garage apron by about 4-5", so half of my garage floods with every big rain). http://seeclickfix.com/issues/1623502

If the city workers had supervised quality control, and consequences for not meeting deadlines and/or doing their jobs properly, maybe things would improve. I don't know how the city manages employees, but in my opinion there is no evidence of quality control practices being utilized.
