During the Richmond Beach strawberry festival, I noticed numerous tent caterpillar tents in the trees on the northern perimeter of the library park. I know it's not ecologically correct, but can the parks department spray or otherwise dispose of them?? Thanks.

Thank you for contacting the City of Shoreline. Although tent caterpillars are very unsightly we do not remove or treat them with insecticide.
We feel they provide a good food source for birds, insects and other creatures. They do little actual harm to trees, and to kill them we would have to use an insecticide. Caterpillars infestation go in cycles. Roughly every 6 years the infestation are very bad but lessen with each following year, until there are very few and then the cycle starts over.
