Description
There is a homeless person living here. I have nothing against homeless people, but there has got to be some shelter or other type of living arrangement to get this person off the street.

This is the THIRD camp in a 2 block radius. There is another one just around the corner on 20th street, and yet another one around the corner from that, on Mandela Parkway. All three have been there for quite a long time now, and all three have been reported (two of them reported on multiple occasions)
There is a terrible, seemingly widespread practice in Oakland of allowing these sites to remain (in this site's case, for more than a year), in order to raise 'urban blight' and reduce the property values in particular neighborhoods. It's a cheap tactic employed by property developers to get a deal on land, and one I've seen in many cities I've lived in... none nearly as rampant as Oakland, though...

The original post was made months ago, and the squatter has been there nearly two years.
The other camps in the neighborhood were finally cleared out, why hasn't this one been cleared away too? What was the trigger for the other two sites (that were just cleared away in the last 48 hours)
(this picture was taken just 20 minutes ago)

Last night, this camp EXPLODED and caught fire. 9 hours after the fire, it's still smoldering. Now it's a giant pile of charred rubble... will you clean that up, Oakland? or will it be here for another two years??
Thanks for doing absolutely nothing for almost two years on this, City Of Oakland.
