Deskripsyon
This intersection has become increasingly dangerous, with a concerning number of near-miss collisions involving both vehicles and pedestrians. The proximity to Franklin Elementary, especially, increases the risk to children during drop-off and pick-up times.
Traffic calming measures are urgently needed to improve safety for all road users. A four-way stop would force drivers to slow down and yield appropriately, while school zone signs would raise awareness and potentially reduce speeds during peak school hours.
I urge you to prioritize the safety of our community by conducting a traffic study at this intersection and implementing these necessary measures.

Thank you for taking time to express your concern about safety and traffic operations. Like a predominance of the intersections in residential areas in Tacoma, there is no traffic (sign) controls at this intersection which means drivers are required to yield to conflicting traffic (and stopping if necessary) in accordance with state law. The use of STOP signs, without there being a warranted need (as defined by the federally-mandated Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices), such as to try and control speeding and/or cut-through traffic, can actually cause unintended safety issues of drivers disobeying the control or not expecting the condition.
If you believe speeding or improper driver behavior is the root of the intersection safety issues, then please be sure to contact your Police Department's Community Liaison Officer for your sector:
