Description

When you turn left from Shady Grove Road (driving west) onto the Metro access road, you have to yield to cars going east on Shady Grove Road who have taken the ramp onto the metro access road themselves. This seems fairly dangerous- people driving west on Shady Grove Road sit at a light (red arrow) to turn onto the access road. When it turns green, they think they have the go ahead- and it makes sense for them to. To have to yield a few seconds later is confusing- I daily see people forget to check to their right to see if people are coming down the access road from Shady Grove Road east, and almost get into accidents. Also, at the time, the people driving east on Shady Grove road have a red light that's frequently backed up past their exit onto the access road, so there are rarely cars going down that ramp--when there is one, I don't think frequent turners are used to seeing cars come. Since we have a small window to make that turn, it makes more sense for us to have the right of way, and the people who are just taking an exit ramp to the right yield to us. Sounds nuancy, but it actually doesn't make much sense, and I really do see people get lazy and forget to yield that one time a week a car is coming from the other direction.
