Description
There is a persistent odor for the last year or so. It smells like burning plastic and you can smell it throughout the community. From what I understand a business is persistently burning trash and other chemicals. How is this safe or legal especially in the summer when burn bans are in effect? I know multitudes of people who have reported this over the past year and nothing is being accomplished. I will take steps to report this to other government agencies and the media.

Thank you for contacting the Farmers Branch Public Works Department regarding your concern. The smell you indicated in your concern was investigated by City staff about a month ago and it was found to be emitting from a smoldering compost facility located south of the Mercer area in the City of Dallas. City staff has contacted the City of Dallas and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regarding the odors and we continue to monitor the situation.
The odor does seem to only occur when we have the southerly winds and changing weather conditions. We will continue to monitor the situation and make the public aware of any future concerns regarding the odor if the situation changes.
The link below will also allow you to submit complaints regarding the odor directly to the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality. Just fill out the log form and/or the written statement form and submit the forms directly to TCEQ by email.
