Description
need help alleviating morning gridlock on residential streets due to Mass Ave bike/bus-only lanes Request traffic or police look into adding a morning police unit directing traffic onto Mass Ave or signs to prevent cut-through traffic in Whittemore triangle neighborhood in mornings (currently signs prevent cut-throughs 4-7pm) But 8am+ mornings are also a pollution and safety hazard when residents can't move in neighborhood due to backed-up standstill traffic on Columbus Ave from Kimball to Mass Ave

The traffic department has stated publicly, several times that they don't care about car traffic. It is not a priority for them. They have a mission statement about moving "people". Makes not sense since the vast majority of people use cars to move around city at any great distance.
Issue is that Traffic should look at benefits of bus lane. I don't think it adds much benefit for the Cambridge residents as a whole. As you mentioned, more noise, pollution etc.
If they want to keep this bus lane (even though MBTA has cut 77 service) (and general MBTA service is just horrible - that is a different topic - T is awful) - they need to end the Bus lane a few blocks from Mass ave. That really causes the big backups.

Not only is the city not planning on removing these bus lanes, they are going to install another one from Waterhouse to Linnean Street. If you think gridlock is bad now, just wait. But hey we only live here and most of the traffic department and 70% of the city employees don't live in Cambridge so they don't have to deal with the problems they create. See ticket #12524562 https://seeclickfix.com/issues/12524562 on the traffic congestion at Alewife and Mass Ave. It has been open for over 500 days without even an acknowledgement by the traffic department except to try to close it.
Yes, the #77 service is the worst ever because of cuts and staff shortages, but that hasn't stopped the traffic dept from posting on their site that the bus lanes have actually made service better. They haven't but I guess you can find data to back up anything.

If they tear down an affordable bowling alley/pool hall/arcade they should build another one.
The tech bros and developers and their politician pets all access to activities in their McMansions but our kids have no place to go.

This is corruption pure and simple. It mayor may not be graft &c but there’s this pervasive corruption of morals, responsibility and public trust that goes beyond “breaking a few eggs” to make this omelet. Whose omelet?
Too much talk like this and Cambridge will pull the plug on this democratic forum just like Boston did.

Thank you to Cambridge for talking the talk of democracy by using See-Click-Fix!
I don’t use the addictive and otherwise problematic social media. I work in Boston and they bolted from SCF and require you to surrender and imperil your data by obligating one to download an app.
