Description
This intersection (Adams/Tienken) is just one of 100s--maybe 1000s--in the metro area that have flashing RED signal lights for left hand turns awaiting the green arrow. Why red? Why not YELLOW--allowing permitting vehicles to complete left turns without stopping dead (and inviting that person behind you, who clearly sees that there's no oncoming traffic and fully intends to follow you with turning as well, to "customize your rear end"). Red blinking lights at left turn intersections create nothing but a hazard and invitation for rear end collisions.
Replace all of them with flashing yellow lights and let the drivers proceed with caution in completing their turns.

That is exactly what the Road Commission is doing. The flashing-yellow arrow is the new standard. However, it costs money to replace the thousands of existing signals. RCOC is gradually replacing them over time, as funding permits.

Unfortunately, we do not yet have any money left over, as winter is not yet over. However, if we DO have money left over at the end of winter, we will use to purchase additional materials (gravel and asphalt) to stabilize roads during the spring and summer and perhaps some additional equipment (if there's enough left over) to begin to replace a tiny bit of the $20 million worth of equipment that has exceeded its useful life, and for which no other replacement funding exists.
