Contact the PTA and have them address the issue to the principal of the school. He then would contact the state DOT to do a study on the need for a traffic light at the area in question. Having the Principle contact the DOT places more weight on the matter. I have already spoken with the commissioner of the state department of transportation MR. Gee about this and this is what he advised.
Or better yet, how about parents stop dropping off their kids. Have them ride the bus. They ARE already paying for that service in their school taxes. Use it.
@Simplyamazed The parents dropping their kids off is not the issue, it is the amount of traffic on the road in that area. People do use the school for other things besides dropping off their kids. Getting out of the school is a problem at all times during the day, not just before and after school.
Are you kidding me?? Parents dropping off their students aren't causing traffic problems?? As a school bus driver who is forced to navigate through this traffic on a daily basis, I can assure you that it is the cause of the problem!! If you have the time, just find a parking spot where you can observe the traffic entering the school around 7:30am. Almost every vehicle has a student in it being dropped off by a parent!!! Tell your kids to "TAKE THE BUS!!!" I know, I heard it from my daughter, "I'm not riding the bus. It's degrading!" SHE TOOK THE BUS!!!! Get some gonads and make your child take the bus!!
Every 5 years, they do a traffic study at Maple Ave. Middle, and it does not "pass" meaning get enough traffic for a light. But, ask any parent, or anyone traveling through at that time and they will tell you it's a nightmare for all. In order to get a light, it either has to pass the test or have a fatality. However, it's sad that the towns of Wilton, Greenfield, and SS just don't get together and do what needs to be done. Some type of traffic light is necessary!!!!!
There are definitely too many kids getting rides from parents instead of taking the bus, and when they pull out they are reckless. They do not care if traffic is coming, THEY JUST PULL OUT! You spoil the kids by driving them, take the bus!
@Rocker I agree kids should take the bus instead of get a ride. However, my daughter is a diabetic and I have to go and pick her up occasionally. Also parents need to pick up the kids for other reasons such as appointments.
Bad idea. So, everyone else who travels up and down this road the other 99% of the time will have to deal with a light? If you don't want to use the bus (or carpool efficiently), then you can sit in the traffic you create.
@Opinionated your comment is contradicting itself. You are saying that 99% of the traffic is not school related and then you say the people who drive cars in and out of the school parking lot is causing the traffic?
As I have stated numerous times.. my children take the bus.. telling me to make my children take the bus is not going to resolve this problem. Please see my comments regarding why I need to access the school with my personal vehicle if you feel the need to make comments regarding my children taking the bus. Thank you!

@Linda.. not contradiction at all. The 99% of the traffic is comprised of the non-1% of the year of which the traffic there is during school pick-up and drop-off. Ok.. it may not be 1%, but the times when it is not those times is a vast majority greater than when it is.
The traffic you complain about is mainly caused by school traffic, during school pick-up/drop-off. The rest of the day (and the many many days school isn't in session), there isn't very much in way of cards coming out of the school.
I think a traffic light there would simply inconvenience many to convenience a few. Not worth it.
Maybe there could be a light there that is only operational during school pickup/dropoff times (or whenever else a traffic study may deem needed). And, flashes yellow the rest of the day. That would possibly solve your issue, and not inconvenience everyone else the majority of the time.
