Description
Growing potholes. These potholes have been increasing in depth and diameter. I know I’ve reported before, I know it’s private. I also know it’s DANGEROUS. The location causes skidding when vehicles are entering/exiting S. Kilby onto Quarry St. This will become worse in winter. I do not want a car crashing into my property on Quarry. It’s only a pothole- please repair it. We all pay taxes on these “private” roads. IT’S DANGEROUS. Cars can’t stop because of the loose gravel coming from the holes. They will fill with snow and ice and be worse. Please repair these holes!!

A. Located just above the intersection of S Kilby and Quarry St. At a very difficult turning and stopping point due to the angle and visibility on the hill.

Yes, you are correct it is a private road. Per MA General Law and City Code of Ordinances, we are only allowed to make temporary repairs in the subsurface of the asphalt. The area depicted in your photo requires much more than a temporary pothole repair.
Unfortunately, this requires a permanent repair that we cannot perform.
The abutters to the private ways are responsible for the maintenance of the way.

Please be advised that this is a private road. The condition of the area is beyond minor repair allowed by the Gloucester Code of Ordinances and Mass General Law.

The City offers a paving program for private ways where the abutters petition the City to manage a resurfacing project at the cost of the abutters. Your Ward Councilor can guide you through the steps.
