Description
Hi: I reported this issue last week and the ticket was closed—prematurely. I was woken today at 6:36am by the sound of a dumpster smashing to the ground by waste removal. This is a private company that is contracted by the city to do waste removal at 1932 Geddes, other group houses on Geddes, and the facilities on Oxford. They DO NOT respect the noise ordinance, and begin sometimes as early as 5:40am (according to a report by a neighbor on this site last week). Given that I complained about this in advance, please provide evidence that you are issuing tickets for breaking the noise ordinance. I have said it before: this is more than a minor nuisance. This is about quality of life. The noise ordinance is there for a reason. It should be respected. And if not respected, then the city should enforce it. Feel free to set up a phone call with me about the issue. The waste removal before 7am—and the crashing sound of steel dumpsters that rings through the neighborhood—has to stop.

I hope the City of Ann Arbor will use this opportunity to help a large group of residents impacted by a recurring issue downstream from a City contracted service. This issue affects dozens of people (including young children) every week.
Suggesting that the individual above address this issue reactively at 5:30 AM seems inefficient and impractical; it assumes that non-emergency dispatch can identify and locate an on-the-move driver and fails to leverage the city’s existing communication channels during more reasonable waking hours.
Would the official assigned to this ticket be so kind as to explain further their proposed solution (or constraints we can’t appreciate from our vantage point)? Wouldn’t this be more efficiently addressed in a proactive manner and by the City of Ann Arbor through the same communication channel that oversees the contractor relationship (and presumably the scheduling)?
Thank you,
A long-time A2Fix fan
