Description
The fire hydrant just south of the septa bridge on the 500 block of harvey st has been driven over again. it was replaced this past summer after repeated requests to the city. this location really needs a bollard or other object to protect the hydrant.
mind you, this hydrant would serve the huge apt building in the unfortunate event of a fire emergency. it was out of service for most of last year :-(

hey 3dart, i doubt they give a scat.. the gate itself is closed to vehicle access on harvey.
our block has been ravaged by burglaries we suspect were committed by kids who either live in that bldg or who pass through their property. one of the neighbors chased some little kids post burglary. the 500 block of harvey itself is a speedway, the 39th district doesn't have the resources to serve us taxpayers in w. gtown b/c they're too busy babysitting the adult children in nPh.
plenty of other great places to live instead of philly. treat yoself to some decent quality of life, i know i intend to. cheers, me

Thanks, LPS.......sad that things seem to have gotten less desirable around our neck of the woods. After living through the Mastery Charter renovation, having the Chelten Plaza crammed down our throats, and just seeing the area become more cluttered with litter and debris.......I'm pretty much over it. But because of the economy and the housing market at a lull, I feel a bit stuck for the moment. I intend on moving south to a much warmer climate (in more ways than one)! Good luck with your escape as well.
It does seem if the gate in the back of that complex is locked that even if there was a fire hydrant in working order there, it would be difficult for the fire dept to get in. I guess they locked it because of theft issues, or illegal activity........I know years ago it used to be open. Both Harvey and Rittenhouse have become speedways......they fly up Harvey off of the Drive, and barrel down Rittenhouse toward it. Too bad we don't have speed bumps.......but then we might just have some idiots airborne into our houses.

3dartgirl, you left out the symbolic stop signs at pulaski and rittenhouse where no one ever stops. i had a lady come flying around the corner while i was in a crosswalk once, she didn't stop, but honked her horn and proceeded into my person. i jumped back and punched her minivan window with all my might, nearly broke it. she got all in a huff like she did nothing wrong, but refused to stop and wait for the police. 911 wouldn't take the report since i was unwilling to wait the 3hours for police to arrive and report "unfounded"
in any event, i created a ticket with 311 yday regarding the hydrant. they replied stating that PWD has been notified. the last time it took them several months to fix the hydrant but about 5 other nearby hydrants got fixed in the confusion. i guess that's a +.
looks like the 39th has a new results oriented captain. maybe things will improve, but i'm not waiting around to see.
cheers,
LPS

i think the greater problem last time was they found and fixed a few broken hydrants on the same street and missed the one i'd reported.
you'd think PWD would do random spot inspections of their assets... I guess we're asking too much.
cheers
