Due to extreme weather conditions the landfill gas collection system has been operating at reduced levels. We expect better results as the current cold and freezing events end.

Unfortunately its always another excuse we have been hearing the same for 8 years here. Its the rain, uts the snow, its the wind! its never something you can control because you have not invested in an operation that manages the gasses as required. total " fail"

In order to better collect & control the gases from the landfill, ACUA has been installing a temporary cap over 30 acres of the landfill’s side slopes. This temporary cap will prevent gas from escaping the sides of the landfill and direct it towards the existing gas collection & control systems.
The temporary cap will also keep water from infiltrating the landfill, which will reduce the overall production of gas as well as prevent the accumulation of leachate along the side slopes. All of these actions will work to decrease the odors. The project will cost approximately $2 million and is expected to be complete by September 2015.
