This service station's lot has turned into a makeshift junkyard where people abandon inoperable and, on occasion, stolen vehicles. This has attracted vandals who bust windows and slash tires, and homeless people who shelter in the cars, and, on occasion, toss trash all over the parking lot. Since the station owner won't monitor his own nusiance property, I suppose the neighbors will have to do it...
Wow...thanks, I thought you were trolling me for a minute there. :) There is clearly no problem with someone parking a car on private property, and if this station owner wanted to rent his spots out to neighborhood residents so they could park their cars off-street, I would have no problem with something like that (though, given the vandalism problems, that would probably be a poor choice)!
Yes, I'm already in contact with my ANC and DCRA regarding the persistent problems we have with this particular station. I just report cars that are left for long periods of time (I tagged this one as "more than a month" because that is my first documentation of it being in the same place, but by my recollection it's closer to 3 months) because more than a few of them have been tagged as stolen and hauled away by the police based on such reports, and even if they're just abandoned, it's documentation. I'm not anti-service-station...I used to live very close by to another service station and we had no problems with that one because only cars that were there for service were on the property and if anyone parked illegally in their lot, *they* called and had them towed away. Cars just sitting, abandoned, in lightly monitored locations are *magnets* for trouble.
