Description
I am outraged over the horrible media coverage we got on this park. When Pasquale Rubano was head of the Parks Department, it was the last time this city had a Park Director. The Park Dept truck comes and sits in front of a pile of garbage for months, They hide behind the snack stand and do NOTHING. Pat Rubano cut the hoops down for me years ago. It ended guns and drugs from being used in that area. When its Winter there is no need for the gate to be opened or the lot plowed. For what do they plow this park for. As for the hookers they been coming up here for over 40 yrs. were where all you people at the meetings.
Leave a note on the car and tell them your giving their plate number to the police..The cops cannot be going into parks and checking for hookers, they are dealing with shootings. What we need is a BOSS who knows where these guys are and what they are doing. Yes they are way short handed, but what I watched for months of sitting in their trucks, why I could have had them clean the whole park......

The police have to constantly monitor this park. If word gets out and arrest are made it will stop but they can not just do it for a month and stop. Maybe they can park there when they are doing their paper work.

The department can and will do better. While I have only been Director on a full time basis since June, I know that for the most part our staff takes pride in their work and want to deliver a service that citizens can be proud of.
I am a firm believer that active positive use of a park is the best way to discourage bad behavior. We will continue to work with various partners to do just that. We are in the process of planning a second annual April Cleanup with the Friends of Fairmont Park. We continue to fund and support the New Haven Land Trust and their Community Garden, the URI Greenspace Program will be back again this summer and we will continue to prep the fields for the Dom Aitro Pony League and provide annual financial support to the organization. We are also in the process of planning our second annual Music in the Park Series in conjunction with Cultural Affairs which last year featured a great concert at Fairmont.
The parking lot was cleared for two reasons. First, after conversations with the PTO and Principal, we have made the lot available for overflow for the school to help to alleviate some of the parking problems. Second, throughout the city we have opened up park lots to help keep cars off the street during these snow events to help Public Works with clearing and make streets more passable. I am willing to discuss this and reconsider the decision, but see value in making this space available for these purposes.
As for meetings, I don't know what meetings you are referring to, I was invited and attended the October QMT meeting but Fairmont was not one of the issues that they raised. I have offered and am happy to attend a meeting of the friends group or if there is a local block watch please let me know. You can email directly at rbombero@newhavenct.net.
I do take staff productivity seriously. If you observe anyone on staff slacking off please email me and let me know when it is occurring - and for how long. In addition to our Superintendents I do make random and unannounced visits to our parks on a regular basis, but outside of providing general reminders and reinforcing expectations we can only really correct these behaviors when we observe them or have strong documentation from the public.
Again, thank you for your comments and your commitment to your neighborhood.

The plow guys never do the corner of Clifton and Lexington right, they leave big mountains of snow at the corner. My neighbor has re-done the plowing of this corner for over 40 yrs. It takes the plow guy to back up his truck and make the lane straight because the road is not straight, the buses have very little room on this street. And its a total nightmare in the morning getting out of our driveways. The city bought two houses in the back to make parking in the rear. Once again another waste of money because that plan fell through. Take a ride down here one day in the morning at school time and park in my driveway and ring the first floor bell. You will see what a disaster it is here due to poor planning and no room . 52 Clifton St/

What is wrong with giving someone a chance? It is not easy starting a new job. Think back how it was when you started a new job. Also it is not true that I hijack every post, Stick with the facts.
