Staff has temporarily placed a radar sign at Adeline and Cortez to alert drivers of their speed within the area. Staff will continue to monitor this reported location.

Adding another stop sign will not do anything. There are stop signs on the blocks on either side of this street. Adeline is straight and you can see a car coming from a mile awhile. People need to learn to cross safety and be responsible for themselves. Even crossing at an intersection with a stop sign is not safe if cars roll the stop. The speed bumps at the top of Adeline are dangerous. Can’t wait til the first lawsuit against the
City for creating that dangerous condition. Just because a few Karens keep on throwing a temper tantrum does not justify changing the intersection. And if you put a stop sign here, I want one on every block on Adeline and
Hillside.

The radar sign does not seem to work, I have never seen it register a speed.

Public Works staff have reviewed the radar sign and have confirmed the radar sign is functional at this time.

Thank you. It has always worked, just like the one on Hillside. And if there is anything wrong with that area, it is the number of cars parked on Adeline lately. In years past, very few cars if any parked on the south side of Adeline. Maybe paint it red like the last block of Adeline and let everyone park on Cortez. The new yellow striping on Adeline does not help because it is necessary to drive in the center of the street to get around parked cars.

Grace, I’m curious if you live near this particular intersection and if you have young kids. There are about 10 young families on Cortez that walk to Ray Park/Lincoln School via the Adeline/Cortez entrance and aforementioned, it is extremely dangerous. I am just not understanding why you are trying to prohibit the installment of a stop sign or blinking lights.

Something like the newly installed flashing crosswalk signs on Burlingame by Washington Park and the Community Center would work.

Wow 10 young families. The only issue I have had with that intersection is a guy in his too tight biking outfit that lives on Cortez make a right turn from Cortez onto Adeline without stopping. I had to slam on the
breaks because of his failure.

Installing another stop sign will only give people a false sense of security. There are stop signs immediately on the eastern and western blocks adjoining Cortez, a few houses away! There is no data supporting this intersection to be a hazard other than all the whining by a few of you. If we install a stop sign here, let’s install stop signs on every block in the City. Or better yet, how about just enforcing the law and issuing tickets to people that don’t stop at the existing stop signs.

I just walked from Adeline & Cortez all the way down to Sanchez & Cortez and noticed that every intersection is a 4 way stop. I think the City of Burlingame should be proactive and put up a 4 way stop sign to make this a safer intersection. The radar is behind a large wooden post for power lines and hard to see especially in the sunlight was not able to see any speed while cars went down the road. I also don’t see one going in the opposite direction, will public works being putting one up on the other side to monitor people driving up ? As I’ve said in the past this is a dangerous intersection and needs to be addressed asap

I can see it just fine. Thanks for the scientific traffic study. Maybe the City can use your skills to design the Broadway grade separation? It would save us a lot of money. Believe in science 🤣
