no not yet but we are still hoping....we understand that this was such a bad storm and I live in Seekonk, ma and still trying to unbury my house but are really worried that my mother will try to do her walk-way herself (she is stubborn that way)I'm so afraid she will fall and no one will see her out there...any help would be a god sent for our family...thank you to anyone who responds to help her...god bless her at 91 years old - she tries...

How much are you offering?

this is actually my first time using this site and was referred by elderly affairs that this is a volunteering site so I wasn't aware that a fee was involved...sorry if I wasted anyone's time! I guess I must have understood it wrong by the elderly affairs department that this was a free volunteer site....my mom lives on a very low budget each month so I totally understand if this isn't a free organization....but I really appreciate all the feedback and thank all of you who have responded...I will try to get to fall river as I am on perm disability also. thank you again for letting me know that this isn't a volunteer site....thanks again...you all seem like really great people to help out each other....many thanks...

Ben.....just checked with my mom about an hour ago, but so far no one has shown up so I was just wondering if you had any luck on your end for any volunteers in her area? like I previously stated I am new to this site so I was unaware that there was a fee involved so maybe you could explain to me how this works so I know in the future how to go about getting some help for her. Again I want to thank you for checking in to see if any volunteers showed up, but as of right now no such luck, so I will try to get down to help her as soon as I can move out of my house...any information for the next time would be greatly appreciated...many thanks anyway

Hi Lynn,

It's definitely a volunteer site. We can't stop someone from offering services for money but everyone we know to have been shoveled out by the site has been through volunteers.

Hi Joseph...no unfortunately she still needs help. I have been talking to Ben all day and he has been very helpful trying to get someone over there but no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm still digging out in Seekonk and I'm on disability but my neighbors help me when they can but my mom in fall river, ma has no one to help her and being 91 I really don't want her to go out and try to do anything herself. It's only the side of the house up to the stairs and in the front (due to city laws they only give so much time to get it done)but any help would be so greatly appreciated if not I will try to go tomorrow if I can. thanks for asking I really hope I can find some help for her.

hi...sorry if I caused any you any trouble but like I was asking if this was a volunteer site. I just called my mom and she still cant get out of her house as her side walkway is still loaded with snow and she cant even get out of her door. thanks anyway I am on my way down there now to shovel as best I can to get her out. I am leaving this issue open because I could still use any help I can get. sorry if she cant pay for your services as she only gets a minimal check once a month to live on especially her many medications or food. thanks again for your help

Joseph...thanks for all your effort to try and help my mom in fall river. we ended up going down there and I'm glad we did cause she was absolutely buried in. I don't know if you saw the post from Jennifer, but I did reply back to her cause maybe she went to the wrong address but like I said before I was new to this wonderful site and really thought it was volunteers who help out their neighbors and "you get what you pay for" was alittle uncalled for but I know there are still great people on your site..wanted to thank you for updating me last night also..maybe we can try this in the future god forbid we have this kind of storm again. thanks again Joseph

Joseph I will tell others about the site, but I didn't have much luck with any help and as for what another member said it was uncalled for and I hope you agree because others who want to use this site for help will notice that quote "you get what you pay for" and think that there is a fee involved rather then what this site is all about receiving help from VOLENTEERS. but anyway she can get out now, it took some time with just myself trying my best but it's over for now...thanks again for trying and hopefully next time I can get some much needed help...god bless to you and the others who sent well wishes...

As the founder and organizer of the Snowcrew program, I do not question the validity of requests. In the five years I have been organizing this project, I have not seen a single example of anyone taking advantage of the kindness of our volunteers.

The act of service towards our fellow human beings is a gift and I believe this is reason why we are put here on this earth. Those who ask for help make it possible for others to give the gift of service. When I am in service, I feel content and happy and I hear this echoed by our Yetis.

I am truly sorry for all the backlash over asking for help the one and only time I have ever used this site. I totally agree with Ben and Joseph we are all put on this earth to help one another whether rich or poor. If I wasn't on permanent disability I would have gladly dug my mother out myself and any neighbors near her who needed help without question or gratuity. this is such a great site for any one who truly needs help and I applaud all the wonderful and selfless acts of kindness shown. hopefully all this bickering will end and everyone just be kind and helpful to one another...be safe and god bless to all...
