Thank you for expressing your concerns. We have reviewed this intersection and have determined, from engineering standards, that an all-way stop is not warranted. At least one prescribed warrant must be met before a stop sign can be installed, and meeting a warrant does not necessitate the installation. The existing stop signs do not have plaques indicating all-way stop conditions (requirement) so a driver should not expect another driver approaching the intersection from either the right or left to stop. Stop bars at the stop signs were added for emphasis.

Whether or not a 4-way stop is warranted this is still a dangerous intersection that needs further scrutiny. One solution would be to move the stop signs to Fairgreen Trace. I think a traffic study would show that the majority of traffic travels on Lake Forest Drive.

Are there any records indicating accidents at this intersection?

Neither local street has a high volume of traffic, but rather low volumes, so any difference in volume is irrelevant. Our study concluded that one minor accident in a five year period occurred and a minimum of 5 serious accidents must occur in a 12 month period for consideration. Lake Forest has the longest distance of uninterrupted flow, therefore the right-of-way for this intersection was assigned to Fairgreen Trace. There is no data or criteria that would warrant reassigning of the right-of-way at this intersection.
