The backup is also for eastbound 19 mile at Hayes. The backup is at least 1/2 mile from the traffic light. I am so sick of drivers using the right turn ONLY lane on 19 mile (westbound) as their own personal "get ahead of the other jerks" lane.

i agree. something has to be done. you cant even make a left hand turn without driving in the left lane for almost a half a mile.

How right you are. I drive home anywhere between 3pm and 5pm. I have even "caught" up with drivers down at Saal Rd, I get them to put their window down and tell them "surprise" you were just caught on camera at 19 and Hayes for not turning right. Expect a ticker in 10 days". LOL.

Passing on the right at that intersection is illegal and dangerous. Where are my citizen's rights? I think it is only illegal if a policeman is a witness to the pass-on-right behavior. Those who are guilty are not here reading this - neither is anyone who works for the road commission, as I have not seen any response to this posting from them. I have tried calling the road commission office, but the (grumpy-sounding) lady who answers won't field the call, even though she says she will.

Maybe we should all organize and actually go over there to the road commission office, at the same time - I'm sure we all know where it is: On Groesbeck, between Cass and Harrington.... Any takers?

Jane, I'm trying to do the Vulcan Mind-Meld with the road commission, but I think they must be out of commission and I doubt their existence, maybe they are flat-lining right now. I agree, if you are the first car at the red light heading E. or W. on 19 Mile and you do not do a burn-out immediately when it goes green, you might get a ticket for running a red light! It's one car per interval. It's the same thing over at SW to NE Moravian when you get to Metro Parkway (16 Mile). You need to do your part to SAVE energy, and do the burn-out. Get out your favorite gas guzzler, to beat the light. (It used to be "to cut off the guy trying to pass illegally on the right at an intersection", but they fixed that (16 & Moravian). Very nice fix! (Concrete curb greets the passer.)

I think ALL THREE basic north-south roads (Garfield, Hayes, Shoenherr) in the north Macomb area are given preference over east-west roads, south of M-59. They (road commission and government in general) want you to use Hall Road (59). There are many reasons why, lot's of no-no's result from lack of revenue to keep up with the expanding population. Plus, the pockets of friction that are generated from old road-design still haunt us, eh? (Don't be cutting through the private neighborhoods... etc.)

People don't like to drive on M-59 for some reason, unless it's to the malls. It's too hyper and competitive. Speed limits are way high, more stressy. Makes sense to me!

Those lights are not "timed" in the same way as they used to be. They are more loosely configured, and timings are set according to someone's demographic study. If you look UP, there they are; the movement-sensors. Cameras of a sort. They can or might be used as cameras, but there's not enough money to staff a 'camera watcher' at all places at all times. So, there's a movement-sensor system, overridden or guided by the local traffic demographic data (which is frequently, obviously in error).

19 Mile has become a PITA!
