Description

Hi!
I live on the corner of Belmont and Drake. I cross Belmont street often to go to Walgreens since I live on the south side of Belmont. In the past 3 months, I've seen several accidents at this corner, and I think a lot of it has to do with people trying to speed through to catch the light at either Central Park or at Kimball. I thought a stop sign here would work better than a pedestrian crossing because many cars literally won't stop. I know they will be working on slowing Belmont traffic through the new bike lanes coming soon, but I think this particular intersection could do better with a stop sign.

Q. List the exact location of the proposed infrastructure improvement including an address as well as intersections and block numbers. (For example: Street resurfacing on N. Kedvale Ave from W Palmer St to W. Dickens Ave.)
A. W. Belmont Ave and N. Drake
Q. Why is this project needed/how has the lack of repair impacted the daily lives of residents? How would the project improve the quality of life for all neighborhood residents? To your knowledge, how long has this been an issue for neighborhood residents?
A. I think that this has been an issue for not only pedestrians, but also drivers. During rush hour, cars will speed through to reach Belmont, and I can hear fast traffic outside of my apartment at this particular intersection. I think a stop sign here will help allow pedestrians to cross safely, as well as prevent drivers from speeding around others in the double lane during rush hour.
