I see. So that is why everyone speeds all the time in CT. There is no incentive for local police to hand out speeding tickets. The $ just goes to the state. I think other states handle this differently and towns do make $ and speeding is not out of control in their town. I think the people of CT should really think about changing this. What are the advantages to doing it the CT way? I can think of one big disadvantage and that is speeders get away with it - in the past, present and future.

While I agree 50 MPH is insane for city streets, the problem with most Connecticut speed limits is they are not practical. Therefore, the vast majority of motorists ignore them and police don't have the manpower or desire to enforce or they'd do nothing but give speeding tickets all day. I'm sorry, I hear your concern but have you driven a motor vehicle at 25 MPH? If you were to slow your car down to 25 MPH on most roads where that is the posted limit you'd think something was wrong with your car and end up with perhaps a half dozen furious motorists behind you laying on their horn or trying to get around. 50 MPH is much too fast and 25 MPH is simply not reasonable in 2013. If posted speed limits were safe NORMAL driving speeds for the road in question, more would obey.

Denise, have you driven a car at 25 MPH? Really? Please, drive home tonight on local roads at 25 MPH and let us know how many cars laid on their horns behind you or tried to get around you.

I agree with both sides here. 25 mph on some roads is almost impossible however, it we increase to 35 people then go 50!! The issue has a simple fix-police and tickets. Strict enforcement of reasonable speed limits would benefit all.

I agree with both sides also. However, I am trying to be realistic. 25 MPH may be the right speed for a road, but in 2014 vehicles do not travel at 25 MPH. I again welcome anyone here (for fun) to drive on local streets tonight and not go over 25 (which is the LIMIT mind you, you should travel below the posted limit) and see what it feels like as you slowly pass each house. You'll think you're car is breaking down.. or the car behind you will. There needs to be a middle ground.
