Yes, I meant to type McCarren Park in Greenpoint. The general area is around the public bathroom in the park. Typically the crowd I'm concerned about congregates near Lorimer and Bedford ave. They have been growing in population. There is also a growing population of what appears to be heroin users nodding out in that general area. I have been living very close to McCarren Park for almost 7 years and have noticed that it is beginning to appear less safe. I have made a point to escort my girlfriend anywhere she goes at night because of this. There is a picnic table close to the corner of Lorimer and Bedford where the crowd typically gathers day or night. The crowd is getting bigger. Sometimes it appears one or more of them is unconscious. Other times there are people literally screaming for hours as though they have been stabbed - obviously from some severe condition, which by the looks of them I suspect could be heroin withdrawal.
Some of the people in question are often seen selling junk (possibly stolen) on Bedford Avenue near the L train, and often attempt to ask people for money. I am concerned that they choose the McCarren Park area to congregate because as a guy who was born in Brooklyn and grew up in NYC I have always known to stay away from those types of crowds. They are clearly vagrants, drunks and junkies and they are making the area less comfortable and safe.
