To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my utmost concern and disappointment regarding the abuse of elders living near the train crossings in Robertsdale . Specifically, I am referring to the incessant honking of trains at all hours of the night, which is causing severe discomfort and health problems for our elderly population.
As we all know, elders require adequate sleep to maintain their health and wellbeing. However, the constant honking of trains is depriving them of this basic necessity. They are forced to endure the loud blasts of the horn, which disrupts their sleep patterns and causes immense stress and anxiety.
The consequences of this abuse are severe. Lack of sleep can lead to serious health problems in elders, including high blood pressure, heart disease, and depression. Moreover, it can worsen existing health conditions and impair cognitive function, making it difficult for them to carry out daily activities.
It is unacceptable that our elders have to suffer in this way. It is high time that we take action to address this issue and ensure that our community is a safe and healthy place for all. We urge the authorities to take immediate measures to reduce the noise pollution caused by train honking, particularly during the night.
We cannot continue to ignore the needs of our elders. It is our responsibility to provide them with a safe and comfortable environment where they can live with dignity and receive the care and support they require."
As a resident that lives across the street from this care facility I wanted to make sure that this has not lost momentum. The train horns at all hours of the night has increased exponentially since the railroad added new tracks a few years ago. If a NO HORN zone cannot be made for the residents of this care facility, then there needs to be a time restriction for train horns. We need the City of Hammond to help these elderly residents not to mention the rest of the tax paying residents who also have to put up with these horns.

Elder abuse due to extreme train honking at rail crossings is unacceptable and dangerous to the health of our elderly because it can cause physical harm, emotional distress, and even death. The loud and sudden noise of train horns can lead to hearing loss, heart attacks, and other health problems for elderly residents living near rail crossings. Furthermore, the constant noise pollution can cause anxiety, sleep disturbances, and other mental health issues that can worsen existing health conditions.
To eliminate horn use at crossings in populated areas, there are several solutions that can be implemented. One option is to install quiet zones, which are designated areas where trains do not have to sound their horns. To establish a quiet zone, safety measures such as gates, barriers, and warning signals must be installed to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists. Another solution is to explore alternative warning systems such as flashing lights or other technology that can alert drivers and pedestrians without the need for horn use.
Additionally, community outreach and education can play a vital role in reducing the impact of train horn noise on elderly residents. Local authorities can work with rail organizations to promote awareness of the dangers of excessive train horn noise and encourage rail companies to take steps to protect the community’s health that they are impacting. It is high time the city steps up and takes care of our elderly.

Currently just with Hammonds crossing it would be a multi million dollar improvement to have it no horns.
We will look at this.
Thank you.

We are looking into what other cities have done and trying to find ways to fund a project like this.
There are many different tracks and crossings that would need upgrades to ensure this is done correctly. I assure you we are looking into this situation.
Thank you again.

With the amount of people who walk on those tracks when they aren't supposed to, keep the horns. They're there as a safety device.
Or why don't you be the engineer of a train when you hit someone where they aren't supposed to be.
