Route 9W through Saugerties is already completely choked with traffic.
Was there no traffic study done to assess the impact of building a multi-million dollar hotel and conference center at this location?
Why were no improvements made to the Route 9W corridor in this area? The ancient bridge over the Esopus can barely handle the amount of traffic already going over it! And now there is going to be more?
What about the gridlock that takes place at the corner of Main St. and Partition St.?!?! It is going to be 10 times worse with this new hotel and conference center.

Hi,
I am afraid that it's too late now for second guessing. I too am horrified that this wasn't done. Blame it on some people's wallets getting fuller and fatter...sneaky, under the desk deals being made between politicians and businessmen caring more about their own intake than the village of Saugerties. It's disgusting but that is why Occupy Wall Street is growing across the country. I'm particularly disgusted that there is no public walkway where residents can view and enjoy the falls. Since when do the people who gave their ok for the monstrosity, not get the enjoy a Saugerties treasure?
As for traffic, I can't find parking anywhere and therefore can't shop in the village for the most part. There is no parking, the traffic is downright dangerous. Ive already had the mirror on my car crashed into when I was parked on the street and that was $150 to replace. The road is much too narrow. There is a significant lack of handicapped parking, a lack of parking in general, and think of all the exhaust fumes and it's impact on the tiny village. The who thing reeks of greed.

Use High street instead.
The traffic study for the project noted that the issue with Main St and Partition St would be exacerbated by the hotel. This study and another recent study (Sama I think it was called) were were both ignored by the Village Council and planning board. Bravo Saugerties.

It's just unbelievable to think about how many other smaller, simpler projects have sat on the drawing board for decades, waiting for traffic studies, environmental impact studies, social impact studies, groundwater studies, parking studies, pedestrian studies, resource management studies etc...etc...etc..., yet this one got rushed right through without nary a whimper!
Now, I am totally in favor of anything to revitalize the economy of this crumbling, broke, hopeless state of NY, but I find it a bit hypocritical that the very same people who make their careers tieing up projects for years in the above litigation, are the same people who have rushed this monstrocity through.
Like I said, I think almost anything that brings jobs to the area is a good thing... I just think this one should have undergone the same scruitiny everything else does, including the most basic thing of studying whether or not the road is going to handle the amount of traffic!!

My response to "Speaking Up"...
I live in the Albany/Troy area, but frequently drive through Saugerties on my way to visit family in Kingston. I usually take the Old King's Highway around Saugerties when I come off of the Thruway because I don't feel like driving through the choking traffic coming through the town through the Main St./Partition St., Routes 9W/32 area, especially on the weekends when traffic is at a standstill.
But occasionally I do drive through the town, and I was dumbfounded at how fast the construction was taking place in the construction of that complex! I couldn't believe my eyes as to how quickly it was being built! I said to myself, "How the hell did they get the permits and studies done for that place, when there are stretches of roads around that haven't been paved in 30 years!!!"
I'm not a "tree-hugger" by any means, and I am usually one to be in favor of building and growth and modernization... But this was done hap-hazardly, and ultimately will probably come back to bite everyone in the butt because no considerations were made to the infrastructure.
The roads are not adequate, the parking is not adequate, the water system is not adequate, the sewers are not adequate-- and because of all these factors, I predict that the place goes out of business within 5-7 years... MARK MY WORDS! It will become just another abandoned building built under a too-much-too-soon mentality.

Wow! Abandoned. What do you think will happen? Other than the parking and traffic being a nightmare? Just curious because if a certified letter or even an email is sent to the town board and the current supervisor, the town can be held libel for sure.
I am sickened by the public not being able to have a view of the falls. That should have been a lovely public walkway.
The problem is that people are zombies in this town. Why wasn't there a fire storm about it?
People if you care what's is going on in Saugerties, come to the meeting at the senior center tonight at 7pm. What happened with the hotel is exactly the greed that Occupy Wall Street is pushing against. Just one smaller scale but the same greed and people be damned!
